Luxurious Home Upgrades: Sustainable Ideas

Posted on 27/10/202126/10/2021 by Claire

Are you thinking of upgrading your luxurious home? Don’t forget to include some sustainable ideas in your luxurious home upgrades. Read on!

Sustainable living is about reducing your footprint on the earth. It’s also about being conscious of how you use resources and live in harmony with nature. You can start this process by making small changes to your lifestyle, like walking or biking instead of driving whenever possible, recycling everything you can, and volunteering at a community garden. But it doesn’t stop there – sustainable living extends beyond what we do personally; it includes our homes as well.

In this blog post, we will share with you some sustainable upgrades ideas for your luxurious home.

Sustainable Upgrades Ideas

Around the house:

  • Use eco-friendly paint and materials that don’t emit toxic fumes.
  • Add energy-efficient windows to reduce your monthly utility bill and keep the cold out during the winter months.
  • Install solar panels on your roof that allow you to generate power from sunlight. You can even sell any excess electricity back to the local electric company! At night, use LED lights instead of conventional bulbs for lower watt
  • Get a green home inspection and then do the repairs recommended to make it more eco-friendly.
  • Incorporate renewable energy sources into your luxurious home design that will allow you to power your home without damaging the environment, such as solar panels, geothermal heat pumps, and wind turbines.
  • Use Eco-friendly wood flooring which requires less energy to produce than traditional hardwood floors, plus they are more durable and resistant to water damage.
  • Add a composting bin and use it to produce nutrient-rich soil for your garden.

Outdoors and around the yard:

  • Use organic lawn care products for a healthy, beautiful lawn that doesn’t require chemicals. Plant native plants in your yard or garden which will attract wildlife and decrease the number of weeds growing.
  • Use rain barrels to capture water from your home’s roof for use in watering plants, washing cars, etc.
  • Build a backyard pond filled with koi fish that will help you reduce air pollution by absorbing nitrates from the water supply while also adding beauty to your yard.
  • Build a raised garden bed for veggies or herbs, which allows you better soil drainage and reduces the watering frequency. You can also grow organic fruits with these.

In your kitchen:

  • Clean with natural cleaning products like baking soda and vinegar instead of chemicals that pollute the air and environment.
  • Organize your fridge with a food inventory to reduce food waste and get rid of items that are past their prime.
  • Use cloth bags instead of plastic grocery bags which take hundreds of years to decompose in landfills and produce toxic emissions when burned.
  • Instead of using paper towels, switch over to reusable dish rags for washing dishes or wiping surfaces down. You can also use a microfiber cloth for dusting.
  • Use a dishwasher rather than washing dishes by hand to save water and reduce the amount of energy you use each month.
  • Replace your old appliances with Energy Star products that are more efficient, saving you money on utilities! These include refrigerators, washers, dryers, ovens, etc. These actions one of the easiest sustainable ideas for your luxurious home.

In your bathroom:

  • Install energy-efficient, water-saving appliances like low flow toilets and showerheads. This will save you money on your water bill and help preserve our planet’s precious resources.
  • Use cleaning products made from natural ingredients instead of harsh chemicals which pollute the air and water.
  • Upgrade your shower with eco-friendly bath mats that are made from recycled plastic bottles.
  • Use an electric razor instead of disposable ones to reduce waste and chemicals in the environment, plus you’ll also save money!

In your bedroom:

  • Replace conventional mattresses with organic ones for better sleep without worrying about harmful chemicals being emitted into the air or seeping into groundwater.
  • Upgrade your bedding with organic cotton sheets, comforter, pillowcases, etc. for comfort and health benefits without the harmful chemicals present in synthetic fabrics.
  • Use a wool duvet instead of down or polyester to naturally repel allergens like dust mites which can exacerbate asthma symptoms.

Utilize natural materials like bamboo flooring and teak wood furniture to reduce the need for harsh chemicals in your home. These materials are naturally resistant to mould, mildew, bacteria, etc. so you don’t have to worry about harmful chemicals being emitted into the air as they age like with particle board or MDF products.

In your living room:

  • Replace conventional carpeting with natural wool carpeting which is naturally resistant to mould, mildew and bacteria. This also helps reduce allergens in the air.
  • Utilize low-maintenance plants like snake plants, umbrella trees and aloe vera rather than synthetic flowers which release harmful toxins into the air.
  • Replace your traditional light bulbs with LED or CFL lighting which is more efficient and reduces energy use at home as well as pollution from power plants. It also helps you save money over time!

We hope this post has given you several sustainable ideas for your luxurious home.
